There's this promise that I make to myself, something about not buying books until my TBR pile amounts to less than twenty books, but I had to, I just had to have these:

Believer magazine,
Bitch magazine,
The Complete Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm (!!!!) For only Php115!

and, a book that I've been looking at longingly each time we enter bookstores:
Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen. I am

plus The Mammoth book of Lesbian Erotica (not in picture)

Remember how I borrowed the Complete Grimm's Fairytales book from my officemate a year ago? I have been seeing copies of it for around Php700 and I sometimes cradle the copy with me inside the bookstore while browsing with the intention of buying it, but the quite hefty price tag turns me off. Now it's all MINE! MWAHAHAHA. Life is gooood.

This one was read and cherished, with notes and smiley faces along the margins:

Sometimes there's some black humor involving recreational bowling and skulls

Some stories are on the brink of cutesy sweetness, with matching illustrations:

But then there are some quite disturbing illustrations:

...and even more disturbing stories (Well, it's the Grimm brothers and not Hans Christian Andersen, so this isn't that surprising):
There's this super short story about how these kids played pig and butcher and one kid slit the throat of the other one so they could use the blood for cooking because they thought it was a game, and then the mother of the "pig", who was giving a bath to her other child heard about what happened and instantly killed the little boy who killed her little boy, but then the kid she was giving a bath to drowned so she killed herself and the father was so depressed that he also killed himself, the end. I don't think they lived happily ever after.

Although I'm quite certain that fairytales in the Grimm's world are more of cautionary tales, this little number made me even more certain that I don't ever want to have kids ever forever. EVER. Not for me, thanks.
