End of read-a-thon meme
Whew! Read 1799 out of 2100 pages. Next time I should perhaps pick more young adult novels. Haha. :)
1. Which hour was most daunting for you?
The final hour! I originally planned to read 10 books, changed book choices when it got too daunting, so instead of ten full books I read 9 books in full and 2 books in part.
2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?
I highly recommend any of Banana Yoshimoto's books. Her prose is stark but lovely. I was able to read her books NP, Hardboiled and Hardluck for this year's read-a-thon and of all the books I've read I've enjoyed her books the most. Also, Dave Barry is great for comic relief, especially when you're getting a bit exhausted by heavy prose.
3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
Nope, you did a fantastic job!
4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?
This is my first time, but I love the sense of community, so I'd probably join this every year! I was surprised that I became one of the readers of the hour, and got tons of very nice encouraging comments--they really work! Thanks everyone! <3
5. How many books did you read?
A total of 11 books, 2 of them in part, 9 in full.
6. What were the names of the books you read?
1. NP by Banana Yoshimoto
2. Knots in my yo-yo string by Jerry Spinelli
3. The World and other places by Jeanette Winterson
4. A year in the merde by Stephen Clarke
5. Hardboiled and hard luck by Banana Yoshimoto
6. Dave Barry's complete guide to guys
7. Change your life without getting out of bed by Sark
8. Goodbye chunky rice by Craig Thompson
9. Creative license by Danny Gregory
10. Primavera by Francesca Lia Block
11. Sleepaway (writings on summer camp) edited by Eric Simonoff
7. Which book did you enjoy most?
I love the Yoshimoto books. And also the Dave Barry one.
8. Which did you enjoy least?
This surprises even me: Primavera. I'm a huge FLB fan, and I love her Weetzie Bat books, but for a read-a-thon, this book might have been a wrong choice. I also read it nearing the 24th hour, so there was that time pressure, but the themes of the book: incest, rape, violence, etc. made me a tad anxious and jittery. I have read Ecstacia (the partner book for this) and I liked it better. I still think the Weetzie bat books and Girl Goddess #9 are excellent, but also because maybe I read those books at an appropriate time in my life? Maybe I've outgrown FLB. I don't know. I'm sticking to light, positive reading next year. I also had a hard time with the Winterson book, despite being a JW fan. It's better read leisurely, I think, like maybe for a week, a few pages a day to be digested slowly, instead of being haphazardly speed-read. (Which, okay, I did.)
9. If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?
Your comments encouraged me a lot! Thank you so much! I especially love personal comments, when they've browsed through the entry and commented on something about the entry itself. :)
10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?
120%. I tried this because it seemed fun and I wanted to challenge myself. I learned a lot about my reading preferences, amount of self-control and what books I truly love. I'll be joining this from now on, most likely as a reader again. :)

*P.S. Photos taken by my loving and devoted girlfriend. She did the graphs too haha. You're wonderful, love. Thank you. <3
P.S.S. Bought that wig from an impromptu DV trip with Nayna that same day. The original plan was to wear it for every photo but it was itchy as hell. It did help me stop from falling asleep during the first 5 hours, but then I got so distracted from reading that I had to take it off after some time. And okay, the heat was a bit oppressive hence what looked like swimwear. Haha. That material was soft jersey fabric, and felt cold against my skin. Imagining I was reading at a beach cottage helped, though. Made me relax and even made me take a nap when I was getting exhausted around hours 16-24. :)
